Mini Window: Revolutionizing Mobile Payments

A Quick and Convenient Solution for E-Payments

In China, more and more people prefer e-payment to cash or credit cards. However, the multitude of payment methods often leads to confusion and inconvenience for both merchants and customers. Ming-Iung Chen and Weixiang Yan have designed Mini Window, a revolutionary mobile payment device that simplifies the payment process and eliminates the need for scanning QR codes.

Mini Window is a compact and user-friendly device that connects seamlessly with three popular payment methods: WeChat, Alipay, and China UnionPay. With Mini Window, customers no longer have to scan various QR codes displayed by merchants. Regardless of the chosen payment method, users simply need to place their mobile phone's screen in front of the "mini window." The device quickly identifies the payment, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free transaction.

The Mini Window's design stands out due to its simplicity and ease of use. The designers conducted extensive research and testing to determine the optimal scanning angle. After numerous prototypes and feedback from supermarket cashiers and users, they found that a 45-degree scanning angle provided the best user experience. This angle was integrated into the device's exterior design, which features a sleek 3mm aluminum alloy plate with a 0.3mm chamfer cutting, enhancing both aesthetics and structural integrity.

Measuring 116*94*111mm, the Mini Window is compact and portable, making it suitable for various retail environments. The device supports Windows, iOS, Android, and Linux systems, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices. Its plug-and-play functionality requires no additional drivers, further simplifying the setup process.

The Mini Window was developed in Shenzhen, China, from October 2017 to May 2018. It made its debut at the Guangzhou Design Week in November 2018, garnering attention for its innovative approach to mobile payments.

This groundbreaking design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Digital and Electronic Device Design category in 2019. The award acknowledges Mini Window's outstanding creativity and ingenuity, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of life for users. By incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology, Mini Window sets a new standard for mobile payment devices.

With Mini Window, Ming-Iung Chen and Weixiang Yan have successfully addressed the challenges of personalized payment methods, providing a convenient and efficient solution for both merchants and customers. By simplifying the payment process and eliminating the need for QR code scanning, Mini Window revolutionizes the way we make mobile payments.
